THE DANCING WORDS

The Ladies Study Group (LSG) book club, known as “The Dancing Words,” boasts nearly 150 members and was established in 2016 under the leadership of then LSG President, Abhilasha Sethia. Aligned with LSG’s mission of broadening perspectives and fostering friendships, the Book Club serves as a platform to achieve these aims.

At its core, the book club aims to cultivate a culture of extensive reading among its members while facilitating meaningful interactions. Additionally, it endeavors to support literacy initiatives in orphanages and underserved schools. Prior to pandemic-related restrictions, the group organized book donation drives benefiting institutions like the Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute in Thakurpukur, Kolkata, where storybooks, coloring books, and stationery were distributed to pediatric patients.

Some of the notable reads since the club’s inception include “Jorasanko” by Aruna Chakraborti, “Dear Leader” by Jang Jin Sung, “The Illuminated” by Anindita Ghose, “Becoming” by Michelle Obama, “No Rules Rules” by Reed Hastings, “The Dalai Lama’s Cat” by David Michie, “The Ministry of Utmost Happiness” by Arundhati Roy.

Our recent picks “The Covenant of Water” by Abraham Verghese, and “The Book of Everlasting Things” by first-time author Anchal Malhotra, were very well received by our members. We have introduced our readers to different genres and have also read many books by first-time authors. Additionally, we have had authors grace our meetings both on Zoom and at physical gatherings.
