Rujuta Diwekar, our guest speaker spoke on SUPER FOOD. SUPER YOU.
Winner of the 'Nutrition Award' Rujuta is one of the most sought after nutritionists in the country. She addressed an audience of LSG members and some guests, in a two hour interactive session at the Oberoi Grand's banquet hall. Her talk was engaging and was interspersed with witty anecdotes that kept the audience in joyful spirits.
Her five point super food suggestions were simple. One must eat rice, jaggery, ghee, coconut and spices on a daily basis, all of which are easily adaptable to our Indian diet. Everyone left the programme feeling rejuvenated on eating correctly and educated on food choices. Many happily bought her books, which were on sale at a special price for the day.

Mrs Manjula Pooja Shroff defines herself as an edu-preneur and is a well-known face in Ahmedabad's scholastic circles. Her company Calorx Foundation, of which she is the Founder-Director, is a non-profit, professionally managed, self-sustaining, autonomous institute and has led the way in academic excellence by aiming to deliver high quality, contemporary education to its pupils." Visamo Kids" and "Prerna" for the dyslexic, speak volumes of her initiative towards the less privileged.
The LSG members were privileged to have her share her thoughts and ideas at a very successful interactive session with a diverse audience of women which included home makers, entrepreneurs, teachers and doctors. Manjula herself hailed from an extremely conservative. "purdah" family but she educated and empowered herself to come into her own and hence laid great emphasis on the education and financial independence of women.
The session ended on a very positive note with each of the audience feeling empowered in their knowledge that learning was timeless and limitless... And reaffirming the vital roles each one plays in their individual and independent relationships. Be a "Glocal" citizen rather than a "global" citizen is what she said in her closing line.
She opened her speech with power and closed it with conviction.

An elegantly styled auditorium set the mood for an informative and fact filled afternoon where a packed audience was enraptured by the talks of the two experts on the panel ably chaired by our very own committee member Dr. Rupali Basu.
Dr. Sachin Varma gave an overview on skin care an...d the advances made in the field . He explained the importance of each individual understanding their own skin type and how to take care of it visavis food, exercise, hydration and meditation. Interestingly he suggested we also pay heed to "grandma " advice of various home made remedies with kitchen ingredients like curd, basin ,lime etc. He propagated a holistic approach to skincare and detailed some of the modern methods to sort out skin problems.
The beautiful Dr Jamuna Pai focused on smart anti aging and skin care tips. She suggested simple lifestyle changes to create a healthy younger and fresher look . Her theory ..the E theory .. Was fascinating and covered the 5 Es ... Everyday , Exfololiate ,Eat , Exercise, Erase....and each aspect was explained clearly to an audience who copiously took down notes .Her little 'nuska'of a spinach juice and lime shot every morning as the secret of a glowing skin was a tip everyone present will definitely be practicing.
A satiated audience left the banquet hall empowered with very useful knowledge on skin and its care .After all ... Glamour is about feeling good about your skin and being beautiful is being comfortable in your own skin. Practicing what was explained by our panel will help us achieve both.

It was truly a very enjoyable & informal afternoon with Wendell Rodricks at the ITC Sonar Bangla with members of Lsg and our guests. We started the event with a minute silence as a mark of respect for the late Dr. APJ Kalam ex President & patriot of India.
Wendell was introduced, as a man of myriad qualities ." Guru of minimalism" Wendell earned this title with his first collection. At a time when couture in India meant silk with embroidery, Wendell led the way with his rural cotton weaves, eco dyes and garment patterns favouring cut & colour, never resorting to embroidery in his entire career.Wendell has been the brain behind many Festivals of India , designed state official uniforms , written two successful books & is a huge philanthropist . He revived the weaving of the traditional Goan Kunbi Sari, discovered a dying village & helped its restoration & revived natural dyes & hand loom weaves. The man behind the first Lakhme Fashion Show also designed the Visionnaire collection, a world wide pioneering collection to help the visually challenged read Braille on clothes.
A man with a great sense of humour Wendell gave excellent tips to the ladies on colour silhouettes & makeup. The surprise of the afternoon was a makeover of four of our ladies by Lakhme & Wendells garments which delighted everyone by its simplicity & elegance . The Padma Shri from Colvale draws his inspiration from nature & transfers visual beauty & texture into his clothes.
Many thanks Wendell Rodricks for a lighthearted trip into the world of high fashion. More than 170 ladies enjoyed the sumptuous tea laid out by ITC hotel.
